24.8.2026 Olevi update to version 3.0.0
Olevi version 3.0.0 has been officially released to our customers today, 24.8.2026.
While detailed release notes were previously published directly on this documentation site, collaboration with customers has increasingly shifted toward direct communication channels. Going forward, these posts will provide a broader, higher-level perspective on releases and key architectural changes.
We initially considered aligning the 3.0.0 update with the next major release of the upstream Shibboleth IdP; however, the Shibboleth Consortium’s recent focus on their project roadmap has centered elsewhere. Despite no major IdP release upstream, the volume and importance of accumulated improvements led us to designate this as a major version milestone (3.0.0), even though the underlying Shibboleth IdP major version remains unchanged.
Key Highlights and Changes
- Jetty 12 Migration: Upgraded using the official Consortium plugin.
- Secrets Management: Revised and modernized handling of secrets and credentials.
- New Olevi Modules: Introduced new extension modules (detailed in a dedicated article).
- Deprecation of Olevi WebAuthn Module: Phased out in favor of standardized upstream features (also covered in the article referenced above).

What’s Ahead
The Shibboleth Consortium has made an official OIDC RP plugin available. We are currently evaluating this development and exploring how it will influence the roadmap for the corresponding Olevi module.
